About

History of Killer Nashville’s Broken Ribbon
Broken Ribbon was launched in 2017 by Killer Nashville and American Blackguard, Inc. as a platform for new and emerging voices in both literary and genre-themed writing–worlds which we do not believe are mutually exclusive.

Thematically, Broken Ribbon, seeks works that are raw, gritty. We aren’t interested in hifalutin gimmicks or flowery language that bogs the work down and leaves readers scratching their heads. Take us straight to the heart of things with writing that is simultaneously approachable and musical.

We seek works about real people having real experiences—which isn’t to say your work must be grounded in reality, but is to say that your work must be grounded in our common humanity. Show us joy and remorse. Fear, doubt, catharsis. Show us an empty home, a full kitchen—anything you feel speaks to the human condition.
